Pelion Railway

It is one of the narrowest railway lines in the world (60 cm) and used to be called the Pelion Railway. The route passes through a mountainous green area with slopes and dense vegetation. The railroad is 15 kilometers long and it takes approximately 90 minutes to reach the historic village of Milies. The route passes through picturesque places where the magnificent architecture, ancient yet complex buildings made of marble and gray limestone fascinate. Along the way there are arched bridges, arches and mysterious tunnels that create an unforgettable atmosphere, especially the five-arched Kalorema Bridge in the Malaki area. As you approach Milies, the landscape takes on a wild beauty, especially near the crossing of the large metal bridge of Taxiarhis or De Chirico. At this point, the train will move along the curved track while on the flat surface of the bridge. The final station is Mileas, from which begins a picturesque paved road leading to the center of the village. The village has hostels, taverns, a folklore museum and a library, one of the oldest in Greece. The excursion train runs from spring to fall on a special program, but it can be rented from the TRAINOSE of Volos. The construction of the Volos - Milies railroad began in 1892. The first section running to the village of Lechonii was opened in 1896, and the completion of the whole line took place in 1903. The train leaves Ano Lekhonia at 10.00 and returns from Milies at 15.00 with a 15 minute intermediate stop at Ano Gadzea in both directions of the route.
