Башня Ветров это восьмиугольная из пентелийского мрамора в Римской Агоре в Афинах, которая функционировала как часы. Также её считают первой в мире метеорологической станцией, внутри башни были установлены водяные часы клепсидра, а также классические солнечные часы. Столь высокое сооружение было прекрасно видно с любой точки Агоры, поэтому оно успешно играло роль общедоступной часовой башни.
Предположительно сооружение построено около 50 году до нашей эры, но согласно другим источникам во II веке до нашей эры астрономом Андроником Кирхестесом из Кирр. Башня Ветров в Греции имела преимущественно научное назначение и с момента появления сразу начала выполнять несколько важных функций, будучи одновременно солнечными часами и водяными часами и флюгером.
То что это не миф или выдумка учёных, подтверждают изображения на здании. Каждая из его восьми сторон обращена к точкам на компасе и украшена фризом с рельефными фигурами, на которых изображены ветра, дующие с этого направления. Их названия сохранились до наших дней: Борей (север), Кекий (северо-восточный), Апелиот (восток), Еврус (юго-восточный), Нотус (юг), Липс (юго-западный), Зефирус (запад) и Скирон (северо-западный). Под фризами находились восемь вертикальных солнечных часов, где тень отбрасывалась на часовые линии, которые немного видны и сегодня.
Первоначально верхушка здания была увенчана бронзовым флюгером с изображением греческого посланника Морского Тритона, рука которого указывала направление откуда дул ветер. Внутри Башни находились сложные по конструкции внутренние Клепсидры (водяные часы), которые приводила в движение вода, стекающая из большого колодца под Акрополем. Этот механизм был сверхважен для определения времени в облачные дни, а также ночью, когда солнечные часы не работали.
