Ancient city of Sagalassos

Sagalassos is an ancient city in the southern part of modern Turkey, located in the mountains of the western Pisidia region. It is about 1500 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest ancient settlements in Asia Minor. Sagalassos is known for its rich history, unique architecture and magnificent natural surroundings. The city was founded around the 12th century BC, and by the Hellenistic period it had become an important cultural and commercial center of the region. Under Roman rule, it prospered due to its favorable location on trade routes and the production of pottery, which was exported throughout the Mediterranean. After earthquakes and raids in the 7th century AD, the city gradually declined and was abandoned. Sagalassos has an amazing combination of nature and history, attracting both lovers of archaeology and connoisseurs of ancient heritage. Tourists come here to enjoy not only the rich history, but also the marvelous mountain scenery.

Sagalassos is famous for its well-preserved Roman monuments

Hadrian's Fountain – a magnificent structure with marble decoration and sculptures, through which water still flows.

Theatre– amphitheater for 9000 spectators, impressive in its size and view of the mountains.

Agora– the central square, where trade and important public events took place.

Thermae–  public baths with preserved mosaic elements and water supply systems.

Temple of Hadrian – dedicated to the Roman Emperor, distinguished by its columns and decoration.
