Aba waterfall

Paranymphi, Crete, Greece

Aba waterfall

The waterfall is located in the Aba Gorge, the wild mountains of Asterousia, about 700 meters above sea level. The waterfall is 145 meters high and is one of the highest waterfalls in Greece. Just above the waterfall, there is a road that takes you to 3 churches. There is a ruined water mill in the parking lot, and from there a very short path along the cliff begins, leading to a place with a beautiful view of the waterfall and the sea. The name Abbas comes from the word “abbas” (priest), as a monk once practiced at the foot of a large waterfall. The gorge is after the waterfall and ends at the sea, there are other smaller waterfalls. The gorge is protected by the speleological associations of Crete, so a small group of experienced climbers can descend to it in about 7 hours.
