Greek pyramids

On the Peloponnese peninsula, in Argolis, ancient stone structures of cyclopean masonry in the shape of pyramids have been preserved. The most famous of these is the Elliniko pyramid, located just a few kilometers from the city of Argos. These stone structures are small in size, have a truncated pyramidal shape, and are made of massive blocks. Similar structures can be found in other places in Argolis, for example, near the village of Ligourio. The purpose of these pyramids remains a mystery, but some scientists believe they were tombs, while others believe they were watchtowers that controlled important roads of the time. The age of these structures remains a subject of debate. Some scientists date them to the distant past, to the third millennium BC, while others believe that they belong to a later period, up to the Classical or Hellenistic periods. Today, the pyramids of Argolis remain unique and little-studied archaeological monuments in Greece, combining ancient mystery and rare architectural heritage.
