Kaiafas Thermal Springs

Loutra Kayafa is located just 26 km from the town of Pyrgos and approximately 25 km from Ancient Olympia. The thermal springs of Kayafa originate in a cave known as the “cave of the nymphs.” The waters in the large cave warm up to 32–35 °C, and in the small cave to 29–34 °C all year round. This place has been famous for its healing properties since ancient times. Bathing here is especially recommended for rheumatism, neuralgia, and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. According to legend, the caves at the foot of Mount Lapifa were inhabited by the nymphs Calliafea, Pigea, and Iasis, who guarded these waters. Even in ancient times, people came here in the hope of being cured of skin diseases, especially ringworm and leprosy. It was believed that if you swam across the river, the water would carry the disease away with it, and the person would emerge on the other side purified. Just a few steps from the thermal spring is a picturesque lake that stretches parallel to the sea coast, surrounded by pine groves and filling the air with a healing aroma. Lutra Kayafa is a rare place where you can swim in both the lake and the sea, enjoy the healing thermal waters, stroll through a picturesque pine forest, and watch a mesmerizing sunset.
